it’s a budget paradise in Europe

Tourism experts have named the new gem of the summer: discover this secret paradise where the water is turquoise and the bill is halved.

It’s time to prepare for your summer vacation, and that’s a good thing, tourism experts have decided. During the prestigious Travelbook Sundowner ceremony organized in Berlin to designate the most popular emerging destination in Europe, an unexpected country stood out against competitors such as Albania and Cyprus. More than 15,000 travelers have voted this country as the gem not to be missed this year.

Breathtaking wild landscapes, a sublime Mediterranean coast and above all an addition that does not sting… This country, which has gone under the radar until now, has just officially won the special “Rising Star 2026” prize awarded by the German media Travelbook. With 39% of the votes, it won the hearts of travelers because it allows you to do everything without spending hours on the road. As Nuno Alves, editor-in-chief who presented the prize, points out: “Swim in the sea in the morning, walk in the mountains in the afternoon and savor the richness of gastronomy and culture in the evening. Few countries in Europe bring such contrasts together in such a small area.”

This new paradise is Montenegro. Between the Adriatic Sea and dizzying peaks, this small Balkan country is the right place for those looking for turquoise waters without the prices of the Côte d’Azur. In Budva, a flagship coastal town known for its medieval city and the islet of Sveti Stefan, count on around 15 euros for an excellent full meal on the terrace and less than 3 euros for a coffee or a beer! From bustling seaside resorts to secluded coves like Velika Plaža and its 13 kilometers of fine sand, the coastline offers an affordable alternative to classic Southern European destinations.

This “land of black mountains” hides world records within. This is where the Tara canyon is located, the longest and deepest in Europe. This 1,300 meter deep stone giant, listed by UNESCO, is a paradise for lovers of rafting, canyoning or giant zip lines. For those who prefer calm, the Black Lake and the forests of the Durmitor National Park offer postcard landscapes that have nothing to envy of the Alps.

But the highlight of the show remains Lake Skadar, the largest in the Balkans. It is home to exceptional wildlife, ideally discovered during a sunrise cruise: it is one of the last refuges of the Dalmatian pelican and a stopover for over 280 species of migratory birds. Between two water lilies you can also spot freshwater turtles and rare herons.

This champion title, officially presented during the evening Travel book Sundowner confirms that Montenegro is no longer just a confidential destination. Hurry and discover this gem before the crowd grabs it! Direct flights exist from Paris to Podgorica or Tivat.
