The project is included in the program ESPA with a budget of 1.5 million euros for the energy upgrade, but according to the engineers’ studies and on-site inspections, it was deemed impossible to open due to serious problems with the roof of the pool.
According to the mayor of Karepnisiou, the small roof, as well as part of the main roof, are facing structural problems and require immediate replacement. The municipal authority, informed from the first moment, contacted the relevant ministries and succeeded in obtaining additional funding for the replacement of the roof and the improvement of the pool’s infrastructure, such as the water and air recirculation network.
The new funding of the Ministry of Sports amounts to 550,000 euros, which will allow the project to be safely completed. The mayor emphasized that the municipal authority is responsible and will not negotiate on security issues. He expressed optimism that from the new year the swimming pool will be ready to function again and offer upgraded services to the citizens and athletes of the city, as well as to people with mobility problems.
