Google may soon integrate Gemini Live into the taskbar

Google can rely on its Chrome web browser to graft Gemini Live into the taskbar of Microsoft’s operating system, thereby undermining Copilot’s politeness.

Gemini Live soon in the Windows 11 taskbar? It may soon be possible. At least that’s what the discovery was made Latest Windows on the latest news related to Windows 11 about a recent patch intended for Chromium. It actually mentions fixing a functionality that would be directly linked to Gemini Live.

A few weeks ago the leak Leopeva64 revealed that Google was working on a new button in the Chrome tab bar to open a floating panel about a feature listed under the code name “GLIC.” It would be none other than Gemini Live in Google Chrome. This would involve Google integrating its chatbot into its browser, as it has done Microsoft with Copilot in Edge.

But the Mountain View firm can go even further. Gemini Live, currently limited to a mobile app on Android and iOS, could benefit from further integration into Windows 11 in addition to joining the Chrome sidebar.

Gemini Live in the Windows 11 Taskbar Soon?

As Microsoft previously did with Copilot, Google is reportedly working on a solution to integrate a Gemini Live button directly into the Windows 11 taskbar by exploring Chromium’s code review tool. Chrome Gerrit), Latest Windows made quite an interesting discovery. Google developers have in fact published a patch intended to ” fix a disconnect on Windows “. Digging a bit into the code associated with this patch, it appears that Google is attempting to improve the operation of the side panel that will be dedicated to Gemini Live.

Although nothing is certain yet, the elements found in this patch seem to indicate that Google is looking for a way to improve the integration of its voice assistant. The goal here would be that it could be executed by clicking directly on a button that would be pinned to the taskbar. This system already exists within Chrome to quickly access certain browser features. This is indeed the case of Password manager integrated in the browser for which it is possible to add a shortcut from the settings shortcut that can then be pinned to the Windows taskbar.

By offering an option to better integrate its Gemini Live voice assistant into Windows, Google hopes to Microsoft and its Copilot, whose operation is still modified over the past few months.
