STASY on fire at Elektrikos: “It didn’t happen on a train”

An announcement about the fire incident near the Elektrikos track is over STOP.

Among other things, it is stated that fire did not occur on a train and that the passengers of a carriage who saw the smoke pulled the safety lever to open the doors and the train came to a halt.

The STASY announcement reads as follows:

“On a stationary train between Nerantziotissa and Irini stations waiting for the green light to depart, passengers pulled the door’s safety handle when they noticed smoke near the network.

The driver, as provided in the Safety Protocol, cut off the electricity supply to the Line in cooperation with the Control Centre, used the fire extinguisher provided by the train and helped to evacuate the passengers to the nearest station.

At the same time, a train moving in the opposite direction came to a halt, due to the line’s power failure, and it was also evacuated.

It is clear that the fire did not occur in a train. The train was moved from the site, without showing any visible damage, and will be further checked at the STA.SY repair base.

The fire brigade is conducting an investigation into the exact causes of the fire.”
