Forget the oversold postcard villages. In 2026, it’s a bunch we’ve never heard of that will dethrone the towns seen and reviewed and the historic capitals in the prestigious “Europe’s Best Destinations” ranking. Almost a million travelers have propelled this totally underrated Mediterranean village into the top 20 most popular places in Europe. Between authenticity and Instagrammable colors, this village hits all the marks.
Imagine a hill where pastel houses are stacked on top of each other like a perfect mosaic of colors. At the foot of these facades, a peaceful river, the Temo, catches the sun’s glare to reflect it on the ancient walls. It is a labyrinth of cobbled streets, artisan workshops and terraces where time has no hold. Described by the experts at European Best Destinations as “one of the most charming surprises in Sardinia”, this paradise offers total disconnection, far from the hustle and bustle of classic seaside resorts.

This revelation has a name: Bosa. Now ranked as the 17th most beautiful destination in Europe, this small Italian city has emerged from the shadows to become the must-visit destination of 2026. The old quarter of Sa Costa is its beating heart: a maze of colorful streets where you can enjoy fresh seafood accompanied by a glass of Malvasia, the region’s legendary local wine. In Bosa, “the atmosphere is warm, simple and deeply Sardinian”, offering this rare luxury “where life flows with an instantly rejuvenating sweetness”.
But Bosa is not limited to its historic center. A few minutes further, its marina reveals beaches of golden sand and crystal clear water that have nothing to envy on the distant archipelagos. High above, the medieval Malaspina Castle dominates the valley and offers panoramic views of what travel experts now consider one of Italy’s most beautiful towns. As the European jury points out, Bosa is above all a matter of atmosphere: “colours, calm, scents and a touch of timeless Mediterranean romanticism”.
This success confirms Italy’s dominance of European tourism this year. If Madrid in Spain was crowned “European Best Destinations 2026”, the Boat places 7 representatives in the general top 20: Verona climbs to 4th place, followed by Burano (8th) and Cefalù in Sicily (15th). Bosa completes the quartet at the bottom of the prestigious ranking, along with Ravello (18th place), the island of Procida (19th) and the famous Taormina in Sicily (20th).
